The concepts of Needing health and Wanting health can be understood through the principles of balance, harmony, and the interconnectedness of all things. Taoism emphasises the importance of aligning oneself with the natural flow of the universe, in order to achieve well-being and harmony.

Needing health refers to a state where an individual recognizes the necessity of good health for their overall well-being and functioning. It recognizes that health is a fundamental aspect of human existence and that without it, one's ability to function optimally and experience happiness and fulfilment can be hindered. It acknowledges the fundamental requirement of being physically and mentally healthy to live a fulfilling life. In Tao philosophy, needing health can be seen as a recognition of the balance and harmony required within oneself to align with Nature. Needing health implies a recognition of the importance of maintaining a state of well-being and taking appropriate actions to address health issues when they arise.

Wanting health, on the other hand, refers to a desire or preference for good health. It stands for aspiration for optimal well-being beyond what is strictly necessary for survival. It stems from a personal choice to pursue well-being and can involve various strategies, practices, and efforts to achieve and maintain good health. It reflects a proactive approach to health, driven by the understanding that vibrant health contributes to an enhanced quality of life and personal growth. Wanting health goes beyond mere recognition of its necessity and reflects an active engagement in taking responsibility for one's health and well-being.

Self-healthcare education emphasizes empowering individuals to take an active role in managing their own health and well-being. It promotes knowledge and understanding of preventive measures, lifestyle choices, and self-care practices that can enhance health outcomes. By educating individuals about the principles of holistic well-being and providing them with the necessary tools and resources, Global self-healthcare education and research aim to enable people to make informed decisions and take actions that promote their own health.

GSHER can revolutionize the present healthcare system in several ways. First, it shifts the focus from a predominantly reactive model of healthcare to a proactive one, emphasizing prevention and self-care. By empowering individuals to adopt healthy habits and make informed choices, self-healthcare education has the potential to reduce the burden on healthcare systems by preventing the occurrence of certain diseases and promoting overall wellness.

Second, Global self-healthcare education encourages personalised and patient-centred care. It recognises that individuals have unique needs and situations, and it empowers them to actively participate in their own care by providing them with knowledge and resources. This can result in better patient outcomes and higher levels of satisfaction with healthcare

GSHER has the potential to transform the current healthcare system in a variety of ways. Secondly, it moves the emphasis from a reactive to a proactive style of healthcare, stressing protection, promotion, and preservation of health through self-care. Self-healthcare education has the ability to minimise the load on healthcare systems by empowering individuals to adopt healthy behaviours and make informed choices, preventing the emergence of certain diseases, and improving general wellness. encounters.

”We are in an era of healthcare and self-care; the two essentials for a great life! It is 2023, and people are prioritizing themselves now, but often it is a failed attempt; the reason being the incorrect approach or decline in dedication. This course is exactly what is needed. Although I knew most of the knowledge provided, acknowledging it was never my cup of tea. This course gave me the “study and cognize” 3 hrs a week time, to acknowledge the prior known and learn new things along the way. All the lectures focussed on minute issues that went unnoticed, and I am glad I listened to my heart and took-up the course. I hope the people interested in taking good care of themselves introspect themselves and pursue the course.

I have learned to be more self-aware, and that every person and thing we face contributes to our happiness or dissatisfaction.

Pius Ojara, Ugandan, NIT Rourkela Student, 2019/23.

Thank you so much for taking the time to take a course for us. It was one of the most refreshing classes I've had, and I always got to learn something new. It was very interesting to learn the science behind how we can take care of ourselves. The course brought new meaning to "Prevention is better than a cure". It was very eye-opening, and I hope I am able to implement the things I learned in my daily life to utilize their full potential.

Sincerely, Olivia Newton, NIT rourkela
